Temperature and control in industrial production are very important, the accuracy of temperature measurement determines the quality of products, and temperature parameters also play a vital role in product production efficiency and safe and reliable operation of production lines.
For example, in heat treatment and thermal processing, advanced infrared thermometers and other non-contact temperature sensors have been gradually used to replace traditional thermocouples and thermal resistance thermoelectric temperature sensors, so as to realize temperature monitoring and control of production processes or important equipment.
Another example is the annealing process in steel manufacturing, the temperature needs to be carefully checked, if the steel belt is not kept at the correct temperature, it will lead to serious inconsistencies in the product and poor quality.
In order to correctly measure the temperature in the field, there are two important factors: first, you need to choose the right infrared thermometer, a reasonable temperature measurement range and a suitable D:S (ratio of distance to spot size); The second is to ensure that the infrared thermometer is calibrated regularly. There are two ways to ensure that your infrared thermometer gets the best possible measurement results.
Use the radiation source to confirm the accuracy of the temperature measurement. The blackbody radiation source plays an important role as a standard for calibrating infrared thermometers. The blackbody radiation source has a blackbody cavity and a small-bore opening. The blackbody cavity is usually tubular, vertebral, or spherical. The radiation source is not an absolute blackbody, but it is very close, with an emissivity of 0.98 to very close to 1. This is the most typical infrared thermometer calibration device. Most manufacturers calibrate their infrared thermometers with multiple blackbody radiation sources before selling their products. However, it also has its own drawbacks. Blackbody radiation sources are expensive and complex to operate, making them unideal for placement on the production site. A small, portable area radiation source can come in handy. The area radiator has a fixed emissivity of 0.95, and its emissivity can be compensated and corrected to reach an adjustable range of 0.9-1.0. It is suitable for the calibration of different types of infrared thermometers, with a large calibration area and rapid heating, and easy to use.
Confirm accuracy with a thermocouple. Thermocouples are another common type of temperature measuring element based on the contact temperature measurement principle. It is also a relatively easy way to use a thermocouple with a high measurement accuracy to measure the temperature to be measured and compare it with the value of an infrared thermometer to determine whether the measurement of an infrared thermometer is accurate. At present, there are also infrared thermometers that integrate contact method and non-contact method, which can make good use of this function to test the accuracy of infrared thermometer. Of course, the premise is that the thermocouple must also be calibrated by a professional institute and have reliable measurements.
Business decisions that cost thousands of dollars depend on the results you measure, so it's better to get them accurate! Downtime for repairs and maintenance can be costly, but if it's unplanned, it can be catastrophic. If you want to be confident in the results of your infrared thermometer, it is important to ensure that your thermometer is calibrated regularly.

Emissivity
Emissivity refers to the ratio of the energy radiated from the surface of an object to the energy radiated by a blackbody at the same temperature. (A blackbody is an idealized radiator that radiates all of its energy and has an emissivity of 1.00 on its surface)
The emissivity of various substances is determined by the material of the object itself.

01Application in railway design
When sorting vehicles, it is necessary to design an uphill slope, drive the vehicles uphill and then sort and reorganize the carriages by dialing the line. There is a saddle-shaped stopper when dialing the cable, and in order to ensure that the stopper does not collide with the bottom of the vehicle, the height needs to be measured beforehand.
