Maritime transport generates more than 900 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, accounting for about 2.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In order to meet the demand for green development, the use of new energy green ships is constantly expanding, and all ships will gradually realize electrification after all, and electrification has great potential in the ship profession.

It has been 10 years since Danfoss handed over its first ship kit, and in addition to helping the Ellen successfully achieve a zero-emission green transition, there are many other successful practices around the world

Ellen E-ferry: This is a world-famous all-electric ferry that will sail the 22-nautical-mile waterway between the island of Ayr and Füringschaf in Denmark, covering a range of 7 times more than any other electric ferry currently operating worldwide.

About "Ellen"

With a length of almost 60 meters and a width of about 13 meters, the Ellen E-ferry travels between 13 and 15.5 knots per hour and can carry 198 passengers in summer and 147 passengers in winter. The open deck of the ferry can also carry 31 cars or 5 vans. With a battery capacity of 4.3Mwh, the ferry is currently the largest capacity battery pack installed for maritime use, and is the first electric ferry not to be equipped with an emergency backup generator.

Danfoss Editron is supplying the operator Ærø Kommune with the all-electric drive technology for the ferries. The company's EDITRON system is equipped with two 750kW propulsion motors and two 250kW side thrust motors, both of which are powered by DC/AC inverters using permanent magnet synchronous reluctance-assisted technology.

In addition to the electric drivetrain, Danfoss Editron also supplies the ferry's power management system for all active power and load handling on board. In addition, the company provides onshore charging stations and charging piles with 4.3MW batteries for ferries. 、

Danfoss EDITRON's high-protection, high-power-density product range allows for flexible installation, eliminating the need for large electrical cabinets and freeing up space in the cabin. The inverter with a high degree of protection can be placed around the motor in a wall-mounted way, which not only saves significant space, but also reduces the cost of the cable and the risk of electromagnetic compatibility.
