The Rosemount pressure transmitter uses a 4-20mA signal, which is the conversion value of the output generated by the pressure transmitter. The output of the transmitter is detected according to the HART protocol, however, it is converted to a proportional current so that it can be visualized as a reading. In general, the transmitter displays a 4mA signal output at zero level output, and a 20mA signal on the reading scale at very large or full-scale outputs.
The key step of calibration and troubleshooting of Rosemount pressure transmitters is to verify the 4-20mA current loop signal, and the following two methods for measuring the current loop signal are introduced.
1. Ability to test 4-20mA signals with a multimeter or loop calibrator that interrupts or disconnects a two-wire current loop:
Before you start measuring, check the operation of the pressure transmitter; Uncover the transmitter to reveal the two-wire circuit circuit; Connect the measurement end of the two-wire loop with the mA to be measured; Select DC measurement function before connection; Disconnect one end of the measurement signal line and connect the multimeter or loop calibrator in series with the Rosemount pressure transmitter circuit.
2. In the case of uninterrupted two-wire circuit, use the process clamp meter to measure the 4-20mA signal:
Uncover the location of the transmitter to access the two-wire current-making loop and signal line; Connect the process clamp meter to the signal line; identify the mA output signal at the zero value of the process clamp table; The value of the mA output must be in the range of 4mA to 20mA; If no readings are visible between 4-20mA, troubleshooting and calibration are required; If this value is within this range, the functionality of the Rosemount pressure transmitter is ensured
