Tighten the abort rope switch as a safety component in customized transport systems
"Do-it-yourself" is the approach taken by material handling manufacturers to invent a completely new business model. Users are now able to equip and order conveyor belts designed to meet their individual needs online. The system can be quickly delivered,
Agile production and commissioning in the field. Push-abort rope switches from Schmersal are used as protective equipment for these new modular systems.
Many professions are looking for ways to deal with the problem of transporting bulky goods one after another, and it is common to choose a delivery system that is tailored to the individual application and customer requirements. Westeria Fördertechnik GmbH, a company in Ostbervoern, Germany, develops and produces customized systems for global use. Its systems are known for their long service life, even in harsh environments. Typical customers for this system are recycling plants and cement fabricators.
Westeria is now keen to show how digitalization can be used in the handling of materials (not only in production, but also in the "front end" of sales)
Pioneering new opportunities. The medium-sized company has launched a new business model in the field of material handling – "WeKea". It works in such a way that users use the modules they provide online to draw up a thoroughly customized delivery system. Its online rig is easy to use, and offers a menu-guided interface and parameter selection – from dimensions to support systems to details such as transport ramps and lids. The software determines the design parameters as well as the structural elements in the background.
Develop and account for delivery systems faster
This alone is not particularly unusual. However, the new model is unique in that it is linked to the accounting program. In other words, the user has always been able to see the fixed price of the system he is creating. Once he decides to pick the system, he can print a quote. In addition, the system can automatically generate 3D image files of the STEP pattern for customers to use for system planning. The WeKea Rig significantly reduces the lengthy coordination phase that used to take weeks. Once a customer places an order, the process continues to proceed quickly. Most of the parts can be pre-produced and available from stock, and thanks to the modular system, on-site personnel can assemble the conveyor themselves. In addition, all parts are carefully designed to save as much space and shipping costs as possible. Managing Director Felix Poth (M.Eng.) explains: "In the past, we might have needed ten containers, but now we only need four. This reduces shipping costs and helps to improve our competitiveness in many strong increased markets. ”
Tighten the abort rope switch for safety protection
The concept of the WeKea system opens up around its modular structure. This requires careful consideration of safety skills, both to meet high safety requirements and to modularity and flexibility of components.
The traditional machine safety handling solution for conveyor belts is the Pull Wire E-Stop, which functions a bit like an "extendable E-STOP button", which usually extends to the entire length of the system when the user pulls the cable, and the dangerous movement (in this case, the rotating conveyor belt) is safely aborted. Only after a manual reset can the conveyor belt be restarted.
