December 19, 2019 – Honeywell recently announced the acquisition of Rebellion Photonics, a Houston-based company that provides a variety of innovative, intelligent visual gas monitoring solutions that dramatically improve safety, operational performance, emissions reduction, and compliance in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power industries.
Rebellion provides the industry's only real-time monitoring platform that can visually identify and quantify gas leaks, allowing for rapid detection and analysis of leaks to ensure worker safety. The intelligent monitoring system integrates an advanced AI-driven software platform that automatically alerts plant operators and provides detailed analysis in the event of an air leak, fire or safety issue.
By reducing the need to install, maintain, and calibrate sensors on-site, Rebellion's self-calibration technology provides customers with a cost-effective monitoring solution. The company's customers include some of the world's largest oil and gas, petrochemical and power companies, and its solutions are used in refineries, oil rigs, offshore platforms, pipelines and power plants.
Rebellion will be part of Honeywell's Safety and Productivity Solutions group, which offers a wide range of gas detection technologies, safety devices, mobile solutions and software to help workers stay safe and be more productive. Rebellion's technology will also help customers in the process manufacturing industry improve safety and compliance in line with Honeywell Performance Materials & Technologies' business applications.
In order to respond quickly to gas leaks and ensure the safety of facilities, oil and gas, petrochemical, and power companies are deploying Rebellion Photonics' next-generation visual monitoring technology, which is based on machine learning. Rebellion was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Houston, United States. The patented Gas Cloud Imaging System (GCI) developed by the company combines a camera with dedicated hyperspectral imaging technology to correctly locate the source of the leak and measure the volume and concentration of the leaked gas. The company also provides real-time fire detection, intrusion, and monitoring solutions to ensure the safety of plants and facilities.
Honeywell has more than 60 years of experience providing fixed and portable gas detection solutions for industrial, commercial and government sectors where people working may be exposed to toxic or flammable gases. These gas detection solutions can be deployed in confined spaces and harsh environments where workers need to enter, such as cold storage sites and offshore oil production facilities.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the acquisition does not change the company's financial guidance for 2019.
