Fanuc Shanghai Robot New Factory was built, and the annual output value will reach 10 billion after it is put into operation

As one of the world's four largest robot manufacturers, Japan's Fanuc Group (hereinafter referred to as Fanuc) officially opened a new robot factory in China.

On December 2, the "super smart factory" of Shanghai Fanuc Robot Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Fanuc) started in Shanghai, with a total investment of about 1.58 billion yuan and is planned to be completed in 2023. Shanghai Fanuc is a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric (601727. SH) and Fanuc of Japan jointly established in 1997, with each company holding a 50% stake.

The company's first and second phase factories in Shanghai were completed in 2010 and 2014 respectively, and are mainly engaged in R&D and manufacturing of robot system integration.

Shanghai Fanuc said that the new robot "super smart factory" covers an area of 431 acres, equivalent to the size of 40 football fields. After the completion of the new plant, it will include R&D, sales, system integration and after-sales service functions, with an estimated annual output value of 10 billion yuan.

Qian Hui, general manager of Shanghai Fanuc, told Jiemian News that the area of the third phase of the factory is 5-6 times the existing scale, and the company will increase the construction of China's R&D center in the future and recruit more R&D personnel according to business development. Up to now, Shanghai Fanuc has about 700 employees.

The third phase of the Shanghai Fanuc project will become the second largest robot production base in the world, second only to the headquarters in Japan.

Fanuc was founded in 1972 and is one of the world's four largest manufacturers of industrial robots. As of June this year, the company has sold more than 680,000 industrial robots worldwide.

In the first half of this year, the company's revenue was about 1.66 billion yuan, and the net profit exceeded 110 million yuan.

In addition to Shanghai Fanuc, a number of domestic and foreign robot companies have successively built new production capacity in China in recent years, in order to increase their share in the world's largest industrial robot market. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in the first 10 months of this year, China's industrial robot output exceeded 180,000 sets, an increase of 21% year-on-year.

ABB's "Robot Factory of the Future" in Shanghai is expected to be operational next year. The project, with an investment of US$150 million (about 1 billion yuan), officially started in September last year. After the completion of the new plant, ABB's annual production capacity of industrial robots in China will reach 100,000 units.

Hagong Intelligent (000584. Harbin Gong Hyundai, a joint venture of SZ, is also building a robot factory in Haining, Zhejiang Province, and plans to achieve an annual production capacity of 10,000 units in three years. Last year, HMG and Korea Hyundai Heavy Industries Group formed HMG Hyundai, with 70% and 30% stakes, and the new plant of the joint venture is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

After taking a stake in KUKA, Midea Group also announced plans to build a joint venture plant in Shunde, Guangdong. By 2024, the Germany robotics company plans to increase its production capacity in China to 100,000 units.

Previously, Japan's Yaskawa Electric had put into operation its third plant in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, increasing the company's total robot production capacity in China to 180,000 units
