The so-called "parallel" refers to the 8-bit data transmitted together through the parallel line, so that the data transmission speed is greatly improved, but the length of the parallel transmission line is limited, due to the increase in length, the disturbance will increase, and the data will simply make mistakes, and now the parallel interface is mainly used as the printer port.

Parallel port operation form:

1: SPP (Standard Parallel Port) is called standard parallel port, which is the earliest parallel port operation form, and almost all peripherals that use parallel port support this form.

2: EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) is called Enhanced High-Speed Parallel Port, which is a new form of operation developed on the basis of SPP, and it is also the most widely used parallel port operation form, and most printers and scanners on the market now support EPP form.

3: ECP (Extended Capability Port) is the extended function parallel port, which is the most advanced parallel port operation form, but there are also many compatibility problems, requiring peripherals to support the ECP form.

The serial port is called the serial interface, also known as the serial communication interface, that is, the COM port. According to the electrical specifications and protocols, it includes RS-232-C, RS-422, RS485, USB, etc. The RS-232-C, RS-422, and RS-485 specifications only specify the electrical characteristics of the interface, and do not address connectors, cables, or protocols. USB is primarily used for high-speed data transfer.

RS-232-C: is the standard serial port, which is the most commonly used serial communication interface. The RS-232-C of the industrial computer uses a 9-pin D-shaped connector, and now many logistics receivers use the COM port to connect to the industrial computer.

RS-422: In order to improve the shortcomings of RS-232 communication interval and low rate, the RS-422 community has described a balanced communication interface that increases the transmission rate to 10Mb/s, extends the transmission interval to 4000 feet (at rates below 100Kb/s), and allows up to 10 receivers to be connected on a balanced bus. RS-422 is a unidirectional, balanced transmission specification for single-machine transmission and multi-machine reception, known as the TIA/EIA-422-A specification.

RS-485: Compared with RS-232, the RS-485 interface of industrial computers not only expands the scale of use, but also increases the ability of multi-point and two-way communication, that is, allows multiple transmitters to be connected to the same bus, which together increases the driving ability of the transmitter and the collision maintenance characteristics, and expands the bus common-mode scale, that is, the TIA/EIA-485-A specification.

Universal Serial Bus (Universal Serial Bus) is the most widely used interface for industrial computers. The USB interface is a four-pin interface on the industrial computer motherboard, in which the center two pins transmit data, and the two pins on both sides supply power to the peripherals. The USB interface is fast, easy to connect, and does not require an external power supply.

The RJ-45 interface of industrial computers is the most commonly used interface for Ethernet, RJ45 is a common name, which refers to the modular jack or plug standardized by IEC (60) 603-7 and used by the international connector specification community.
