1. Serial communication
Siemens PLC communication mode
  Siemens PLC supports serial port communication, in S7-200 and S7-200Smart, all directly integrate serial ports, but from S7-1200 to S7-1500, gradually canceled, if the demand, can be increased by the method of expanding the module, the reason for this phenomenon, in fact, is also the inevitable result of industrial development. The advantage of serial communication is that it is simple and low cost, but the downside is also very obvious, that is, the transmission power is low. Siemens' early serial port communication was mainly Profibus DP communication, but the host computer could not directly communicate with Siemens PLC via Profibus DP, therefore, the commonly used serial port communication plan of Siemens PLC is as follows:

PPI communication: PPI communication is only for S7-200 and S7-200 Smart series PLCs, other models are not supported.

ModbusRTU Master: Siemens PLC is still relatively good for Modbus protocol support, which means that PLC is the slave (i.e., slave), and the host computer is the master (i.e., the master).

ModbusRTU Slave: This refers to the PLC as the master (i.e., the master station), and the host computer as the slave (i.e., the slave station).

2. Ethernet communication

Siemens PLC communication is still Ethernet communication-based, many people may know that Siemens' first two private protocols are S7 protocol and Profinet bus, but Profinet is a bus protocol, now as far as I know, C# is not able to directly communicate with Siemens PLC Profinet. Therefore, the Ethernet communication plan commonly used by Siemens PLC is as follows:

S7 Communication: Basically everything from the S7-200 to the S7-1500 can be done, and there are many open source and commercial libraries that can be selected, including:http://s7.net, pronodave, libnodave, sharp7, and can also encapsulate the communication library by itself.

ModbusTCP Server: This refers to the PLC as the server (i.e., the server) and the host computer as the client (i.e., the client).

ModbusTCP Client: This refers to the PLC as the Client (i.e., the client) and the host computer as the Server (i.e., the server).

OpenProtocol Server: This refers to open TCP communication, with the PLC as TCPServer (i.e., the server) and the host computer as TCPClient (i.e., the client).

OpenProtocol Client: This refers to the PLC as TCPClient (i.e., the client), and the host computer as TCPServer (i.e., the server).

3. OPC communication

OPC communication is a commonly used communication method in industrial control, where the first thing is the selection of OPC software and the selection of OPCDA and OPCUA, therefore, the OPC communication plan commonly used by Siemens PLC is as follows:
