On November 8, Eaton Aerospace and Eaton Aerospace appeared at the Zhuhai Airshow, which not only brought solutions to Chinese customers that have been widely served in the mature aviation market, but also demonstrated technological innovations for the new generation of aircraft, including: Eaton Aerospace's multi-electrification technology such as regional hydraulic power source module (HPP), newly integrated into Eaton Aerospace's product line (Cobham ASM, Souriau-Sunbank electrical connectors, etc.), and eVTOL/ Cutting-edge technology products (motors, SSPCs, converters, circuit breakers, fuses, etc.) developed by UAM. It also showcased the local aerospace component repair services built on Eaton's Shangfei.
Desmond Goh, general manager of Eaton Aerospace Asia Pacific, noted in an interview that the pace of technological innovation in next-generation aircraft continues to accelerate globally, and Eaton continues to expand its global technology development capabilities to serve market segments and explore new growth opportunities.
In terms of smart connectivity
Eaton Aerospace uses advanced sensor acquisition technology to focus on monitoring the health of fluids, metal chips and sealing components in aero engines. Through data analysis software and embedded intelligent interconnection, it helps customers predict failures in time and reduce maintenance costs.
When it comes to additive manufacturing
Eaton Aerospace uses additive manufacturing technology to design and produce products that are high-performing, lightweight, and low-cost, dramatically reducing lead times. Currently, metal and non-metal additive manufacturing parts are being used on mainstream OEM platforms.
In terms of multi-electrification
The future trend of aircraft development is multi-electrification. Eaton Aerospace has developed distributed power management systems, such as the Hydraulic Power Source Component HPP and the Fly-by-Wire Actuator EMA, which eliminate the need for a central hydraulic source and piping, providing reliable, efficient and easy maintenance. Eaton is committed to the development of high-power-density hydraulic/fuel-electric pumps, high-speed solid-state power controllers, high-efficiency high-power-density DC converters, high-voltage motors and drives.

At the same time, he introduced that in addition to independent research and development, Eaton has also continuously expanded its product line through acquisitions. Eaton completed the acquisitions of Souriau-Sunbank in 2020 and Cobham Mission Systems in 2021, expanding its electrical connectivity product line and fuel, inerting, oxygen and environmental control systems product lines.
Answering the question of how to see the development of eVTOL/UAM in the Asia-Pacific region, Wu Junyang pointed out that eVTOL is an aircraft that uses electricity to hover, take off and land vertically. This technology has emerged thanks to major advances in electric propulsion (motors, batteries, electronic controllers) and the growing demand for urban air mobility (air taxis). Market forecasts suggest that the number of aircraft in the Asia-Pacific countries could reach several thousand aircraft by 2030. eVTOL/UAM will be a very large and attractive market in the Asia-Pacific region.
But every new technology comes with its own risks and challenges, and eVTOLs are no exception. Innovative companies, including Eaton, need to work hard to overcome challenges, develop advanced technologies, and seize market opportunities. Eaton specializes in electric motor controls, electrical power distribution units (PDUs), power converters, solid-state power controllers (SSPCs), thermal management systems, airport charging systems and electrical connectors. Eaton Aerospace has secured several contracts or orders from traditional aerospace OEMs and eVTOL startups. Eaton plans to provide sustainable solutions for the multi-electric and all-electric aerospace markets to help customers manage energy more safely, efficiently and reliably.
Talking about Eaton Aerospace's participation in large aircraft projects in China, Wu Junyang pointed out that China's aviation industry is developing rapidly, and Eaton Aerospace has established close cooperation with many Chinese aviation industry enterprises. In 2011, in order to support the C919 large passenger aircraft project, COMAC joined hands with Eaton to establish Yifei Company, which is responsible for the design and manufacture of C919 aircraft hydraulic and fuel pipeline systems. On September 29, 2022, the C919, the first domestic large passenger aircraft that embodies the hard work and wisdom of countless Chinese aviation people and carries the dream and hope of Chinese aviation, successfully obtained the airworthiness certificate. "China is undoubtedly an important part of Eaton Aerospace's global strategic development, and we hope that through Eaton's advanced aerospace technology, more Chinese-made large aircraft will soar above the blue sky."
