1. Wide temperature range
Automated computers are designed, manufactured, and equipped with components that support a wide range of temperatures, enabling automated computing solutions to operate in a variety of different extreme environments. For example, the temperature elements widely used in industrial computers and the passive cooling technology used in such systems are capable of operating in very cold environments with temperatures of up to -40°C and extremely hot environments with temperatures up to 85°C.
2. Resistant to shock and vibration
Automation computers are industrial-grade computers that are designed and manufactured to withstand frequent shocks and vibrations. These systems are able to withstand shock and vibration because automation computer manufacturers no longer use cables in their systems, which reduces the number of parts that can fail when subjected to shock and vibration. According to MIL-STD-810G, the automated PC is capable of handling 5 GRMs of vibration and 50 Gs of shock.
3. Dust and debris protection
The automated computer provides protection against dust and debris. These computer systems feature a fanless design that eliminates the need for a fan to circulate air through the system, enabling automated computer manufacturers to create a closed system that is resistant to dust, debris, and water. This enables automated computers to operate reliably, even in unstable environments that are often exposed to dust and debris.
4. Compact design
Automated computing solutions are rugged PCs with a small footprint, allowing them to be deployed in space-constrained environments that are not large enough to accommodate a full-size desktop computer. The compactness of such a system is possible because the fanless design of the small automation PC allows for computer miniaturization, as there is no need for a fan to cool the sensitive internal components. The amount of heat dissipation inside the computer decreases, while the amount of heat dissipation inside the computer decreases.
5. Industrial I/O port
Automation PCs are equipped with digital I/O and universal I/O ports that enable automation PCs to connect to electrical devices and/or sensors that do not have a common interface, such as USB ports or traditional serial ports. These devices include sensors, alarms, motion detectors, and line controllers. By connecting these devices to the DIO port of the automation computer, the automation PC can control the actions or triggers of the equipment through software. For example, if you have an alarm sensor connected to the DIO input port and an alarm alarm connected to the corresponding output port of the DIO, the output port can be programmed to issue an alarm if the software detects a change in alarm status through the input port. The general-purpose automated computing solution can be configured with 8 input and 8 output DIO isolations, allowing the system to react to different triggering events.
6. Industrial-grade components
Automation PCs are built with industrial-grade components, so even though they share the same components with regular desktop computers, these components are tested and proven to operate reliably in unstable environments that are not possible with commercial-grade desktop computers. In addition, autonomous computers are often equipped with solid-state drives (SSDs), which adds to the robustness of the system, as data is stored on NAND chips, while conventional hard disk drives (HDDs) are stored on spinning tablets. Storing data on silicon makes computers more reliable, as silicon can handle shock and vibration better than spinning hard drives.
7. Wide power range
Automation PCs are designed to be compatible with a wide range of input voltages ranging from 9 to 50VDC, providing compatibility with a wide range of different power input schemes. Automated computer designs have many power protection features, including overvoltage protection, surge protection, and reverse polarity protection.
If the system detects that the voltage exceeds the safe level of the system, overvoltage protection will protect the system. Surge protection protects the system from power surges by transferring power to the ground. Reverse polarity protection protects internal sensitive components in the event of a reversal of the polarity of the power supply.
8. Wired and wireless connection
Automated computers are equipped with a variety of wired and wireless connectivity options. All automation PCs are equipped with RJ45 LAN ports, capable of providing extremely fast data transfer speeds from 1GbE to 10GbE. In addition, these computing solutions can be equipped with additional RJ45/M12 Ethernet ports, capable of providing PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) for data and power over a single Ethernet cable.
In terms of wireless connectivity, the automation PC is equipped with the latest Wi-Fi for wireless LAN connectivity. If a Wi-Fi connection is not available, the automation PC can still connect to the internet to offload critical data over cellular connections including 4G, LTE, and provide high-speed communications for data telemetry, remote monitoring, and IoT applications.
In addition, the automated computing solution is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, which allows the automation computer to connect to a Bluetooth device, a low-energy device. That said, Bluetooth doesn't offer the range and speed that Wi-Fi provides, but it does provide reliable one-to-one connectivity and many-to-many connectivity.
