Universal Robots' intelligent grinding system

Create Date: 2024-8-30 12:03:23|Source: Universal Robots/UR

As one of the many varieties of industrial robots, grinding and polishing robots are mainly used for surface grinding of workpieces, deburring of edges and corners, grinding of welds, and deburring of internal holes in the inner cavity. Now it has a wide range of applications in many fields such as 3C occupations, hardware and furniture, medical equipment, auto parts, and sanitary ware.

However, driven by fierce market competition, production enterprises have higher and higher requirements for the polishing quality and power of products. However, the traditional grinding robot has the pain points of messy programming, long debugging time and uneven grinding quality, which puts forward higher specifications for the function and function of the grinding robot.

Domestic integrators have developed a general robot intelligent grinding system in combination with UR collaborative robots. When selecting the machine body, the integrator surveyed several different robot manufacturers at home and abroad. Because the grinding mission requires a very detailed touch, millimeter-level azimuth errors will affect the grinding effect, so there are high requirements for the accuracy, sensitivity, and stability of the robot. Universal Robot can complete safe and convenient human-computer interaction, and has stable operation, high precision, sensitivity and flexibility, which is very suitable for the development of robot intelligent grinding workstations. As a result, the integrator immediately decided to develop a system based on UR5 collaborative robots, and finally gave birth to a robot intelligent grinding workstation: CPolishing.
Universal Robots' intelligent grinding system
The ultimate goal of disruptive products often points to two points: to save time or save money; Whether it is from the perspective of simplifying the operation process or improving the power, CPolishing has achieved "simplification and empowerment". Compared with other robot grinding workstations, CPolishing has completed innovations in terms of user experience and product functions.

1 Active Track Generation Skill

In order to simplify the planning and commissioning of the grinding process, CPolishing provides two types of fast track success: fast track generation skills based on CAD models and fast track generation skills based on intelligent teaching. Users only need to actively generate the expected track by selecting points with the mouse or intelligently dragging the teach-in, simplifying the messy track programming.

In addition, users can make one-click adjustments to the generated tracks, and even make real-time changes to the tracks by selecting points with the mouse during the grinding process. In a real sense, the polishing effect of the robot "moving with your heart" is completed.

2 Intelligent force control technology

The high-precision force sensor and grinding force control system embedded in CPolishing give the robot a "sense of touch" (i.e., intelligent ability control). The robot "tactile" selects the desired grinding force. Together with CPolishing, the grinding process can be controlled by constant force, especially when the grinding head is greatly disturbed by the outside, it can still complete the flexible lamination, and the whole grinding process can be "done according to its ability" to complete high-quality grinding.

3 Safe and reliable

CPolishing's maintenance skills can be useful in ensuring the safety of equipment and products. When the grinding process is disturbed too much and the grinding force exceeds the threshold, the maintenance of the robot can be stopped immediately, ensuring the safety of the robot and the workpiece.

In the future, it is expected that cobots and their accompanying applications can liberate workers from monotonous, tedious, and monotonous work. Preserve the wisdom of human beings in the factory and carry forward the potential of human beings.
