Honeywell's new pre-cooler control valve (PCCV) lasts up to 2.5 times longer than the B737NG on-wing control valve, with improved reliability and lower total cost of ownership.
The new PCCV removes the mechanical feedback system, making the vibration response independent of the engine frequency, which is critical to increasing the predictive reliability of the previous control valve's mean time between failures (MTBF) of approximately 8,000 hours to 20,000 hours.
This innovative control valve was first tested on the B737NG in October 2016 and has since become the production standard for new aircraft. Honeywell has delivered nearly 3,000 PCCVs to more than 40 different airlines around the world.
Honeywell has forward-looking dismantled the three valves that form part of the verification performance of its comprehensive monitoring program. Two were demolished after 2,000 hours and a third after 4,000 hours. Examination of these control valves shows that they are in good condition.
The other control valve was removed at around 6,000 hours in mid-2018.
