That's where the gearless winch with built-in AC permanent magnet motor, developed by Nidec KINETEK for elevators, comes in handy. Thanks to the use of rare earth magnets, it has both the torque to fully drive the winch and the miniaturization of the motor. Since there is no need for reduction gears, the entire winch can be miniaturized and there is no need for a machine room on the roof, and the winch can be installed inside the elevator shaft (elevator lifting path). In addition, the idea of using steel belts instead of conventional wire ropes also contributes to the miniaturization of elevators. According to the United States Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) elevator standard, the diameter of the winding pulley must be more than 40 times the diameter of the wire rope. When the diameter of the wire rope is 12.7mm, the diameter of the pulley should reach 508mm. Replacing the wire rope with a thin steel belt is both compliant with the standard and can be miniaturized to ensure the necessary maximum load bearing and the required friction when winding.
