Profit margins in the engineering industry are under severe pressure. Digital services enable equipment manufacturers to optimize their management costs and implement new business models. At this year's Hannover Messe, which will take place from May 30 to June 2, automation specialist Lenze will not only be presenting its software and hardware, but also its digital services and platforms to OEMs.
Most OEMs are clear about the initial situation: the machine is at the center of the business model. As a result, Lenze wanted to support the core business processes related to the equipment with digital business models and services that would increase the OEM's revenue potential. To achieve this, automation specialist Lenze has launched Asset Platform as a Service, a white-label solution for OEMs, designed to provide customers with a range of new applications to gain a competitive advantage.
Klaas Nebuhr, Head of the Lenze Digital Solutions Portfolio, said: "With this asset management platform, we are able to know what products or services OEMs and their customers need. We can keep track of the application status of the lenze components installed on the customer's device. For Nebuhr, the key is the overall effectiveness of the package – like a Formula 1 car: "It takes not only the best drivers to win a race, but also a race if the car and the pit team don't work together." For example, competitors also calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). The key is to develop digital products for small and medium-sized equipment manufacturers (SMEs) in the digital transformation and pave the way for them as a partner. "As a result, even if these SMEs do not have the relevant expertise, processes and solutions, we will be able to provide them with advantageous and adaptable digital services.
The first is OEE and Downtime Tracking application. For many companies, OEE remains a challenge: it is largely due to a lack of data and transparency. In such cases, Lenze offers solutions with its OEE as well as its parking tracking services. Lenze PLC calculates OEE, thus increasing transparency in the production process for customers without the need for additional hardware or sensors. Customers will be able to see the corresponding calculations on a pre-configured dashboard. The second is parking tracking, where the OEE elements "availability" and "performance" are analyzed in detail, so that equipment downtime and organizational downtime can be evaluated, such as when the equipment is manually shut down. In addition, OEMs can sell these services, along with other applications, as a holistic white-label solution to their customers and leverage digital applications to generate revenue.
In addition to the digital automation business model, Lenze will also be presenting a new distributed drive. For plant and warehouse managers, the trend towards decentralised drives (no need for bulky control cabinets) and system modularity is becoming increasingly important. For this purpose, Lenze developers have developed their i-series MOTEC decentralised drives, which can be used anywhere in the world. The drives can be mounted on a motor or on a wall. In addition, one of the distinguishing features of the i550 Motec is the integrated energy recuperation method, which saves energy and avoids the use of external braking resistors to generate thermal energy. Engineers can be confident that this new development, together with Lenze Motors, will form the most energy-efficient drive solution package on the market. In particular, customers from industries such as intralogistics, automotive manufacturing, and consumer goods production will benefit from this.
