When we use electronic devices, electromagnetic interference is formed. The phenomenon of EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) can be seen everywhere in our lives. For example, when we are watching TV, if the mobile phone is placed next to the TV, the mobile phone signal will interfere with the TV signal to form snowflakes when the call comes. With the widespread use of electronic devices in everyday life, the EMC design of electronic devices is becoming increasingly important.

Most developed countries in the world have formulated EMC standards, and electronic products sold to the country or region must meet the corresponding EMC standards and pass their certification. Among them, the more well-known certifications include FCC certification in United States, VCCI certification in Japan, CE certification in the European Union, and 3C certification in Chinese mainland.

Advantech has more than 10 years of experience in board design, all industrial control boards are designed with 6 layers of boards, and strictly follow the concept of equal length of clock lines when routing PCBs, adopt electromagnetic radiation (EMI) impedance reduction design and crosstalk control, and the decision of cable topology fully respects Intel's specifications and standards. Therefore, the electromagnetic radiation is greatly reduced in the board design, but due to the increase in the frequency of the processor, the EMI design of the board itself cannot fully meet the requirements of EMC certification. Therefore, the EMC design of the IPC chassis has become more important. This article also focuses on the EMC design of the chassis.

Before explaining the EMC design of the industrial computer case, let's take a look at the EMC design of the commercial PC case, because the commercial PC is used in the home environment and has a longer contact time with the human body, so the requirements for the EMC design are also very strict.

Although most of the famous PC brands are sold all over the world, they have also passed the electromagnetic compatibility certification of various countries. However, due to the different uses, the EMC certification of commercial PCs and the EMC certification of industrial computers have different emphasis. The EMC certification of commercial PCs is more biased towards the consideration of the amount of radiation to the human body of the PC itself, so the materials and chassis design are based on this aspect. In addition to considering the electromagnetic radiation interference of the industrial computer, it is also an EMC design point to prevent the interference caused by various external factors to the internal equipment of the industrial computer.
