Pneumatic hydraulic press drives from TOX PRESSOTECHNIK are now installed in thousands of machines and are powerful enough to ensure the safe and fast operation of many different types of joints and processes, including stamping joints, embossing and many other different types of joints. The TOX-Powerpackage® achieves press forces of up to 2000 kN, which is converted into hydraulic force by means of a pressure booster integrated into the cylinder. The degree of force enhancement and stroke occurs by the selection process of skill design. This type of construction combines the advantages of fast stroke and power stroke, and is more compact than conventional pneumatic cylinders with equal power ratings. In addition, pneumatic hydraulic press drives are less expensive and easier to use than conventional servo press drives. In many areas of application, outstanding repeatability is even more important than controllability, which is why pneumatic hydraulic press drives still have a permanent user to this day, especially in the home appliance industry.
Responsiveness and user-friendliness: electromechanical power drive cylinders
For many of today's press drive applications, the price of electromechanical servo press drives easily doubles and makes sense due to their sensitivity requirements, especially when designing force curves and stroke forces for shorter set-up times, as well as the need for energy efficiency and a high degree of automation.
Add to this the fact that more and more factories are now restricted from using hydraulic oil and compressed air, and servo press drives are becoming more and more popular, and the German automotive industry is a pioneer in this area in particular. Electromechanical servo press drives have become the preferred choice for robot-guided clamp articulation applications. Pneumatic hydraulic press drives account for only 20% of today's applications, and one of the main reasons for this is the increase in the proportion of electromechanical servo press drives.
Develop high-end products with Lenze drives, I/O systems, and motors
As early as 2003, TOX PRESSOTECHNIK observed this trend and decided to expand its range of pneumatic and hydraulic press drives with the addition of the TOX-ElectricDrive, an electromechanical servo press drive. Encouraged by a well-known Germany luxury car manufacturer at the time and its outstanding long-term know-how with Lenze, TOX released the TOX-Axis-Controller line-X based on the Lenze servo controller 9400 as a high-end version on the market at the time to operate perpetual servo motors with resolvers from the same manufacturer. "Thanks to the operating principle of these motors, the efficiency has been greatly improved. In terms of skills, asynchronous motors are probably the best choice of all the motors available on the market today," says Dr. Wolfgang Pfeiffer, Managing Director of TOX PRESSOTECHNIK.
Includes integrated PLC and safety maintenance
The Lenze drives used to match the motors are equipped with an integrated PLC and a safety maintenance function. The actuator has two optional safety options: Safe Break Torque (STO) and Safe Stop Function according to Abort Category 1' (SS1). Both safety options are used for TOX servo press drives. As the General Manager of TOX emphasized, "We need to use the safety stop function in the robot guidance clamp articulation skills, because there may be people working around the robot. Other applications are fenced off for maintenance, which requires the use of the 'Safe Disconnect Torque STO' safety function. ”
TOX chose the Ethernet TCP/IP module of the servo manipulator 9400 as the data bus for the TOX-ElectricDrive servo press drive and as an interface to the company's parametric and programmatic software TOXsoftWare Worx. In addition, there is the communication module PROFINET and other optional bus systems for communication with the control unit. The increased rated storage space ensures that the TOX can keep all application software on the drive, including the envelope curve monitor and up to 500 final process data records and approximately 270 processes.
There are also a number of analog and digital I/O ports directly on the drive for the integration of external sensors and actuators. The number of ports can be expanded to 128 with the Lenze modular I/O system.
The range of functions is almost unlimited
Users benefit from a wide range of advantages from the servo 9400 and line-X controllers, as the TOX not only offers a library of standard functions (crimping, jointing, stamping, etc.), but also a set of special functions that can be used to support other functions such as process runouts or multi-condition conditions. The compilability and performance of the servo manipulator 9400 also bring additional added value. For example, for some rated engineering designs, custom interfaces can be created and the functions of the servo press drive can be expanded almost infinitely.
