As early as 2003, TOX PRESSOTECHNIK observed this trend and decided to expand its range of pneumatic and hydraulic press drives with the addition of the TOX-ElectricDrive, an electromechanical servo press drive. Encouraged by a well-known Germany luxury car manufacturer at the time and its outstanding long-term know-how with Lenze, TOX released the TOX-Axis-Controller line-X based on the Lenze servo controller 9400 as a high-end version on the market at the time to operate perpetual servo motors with resolvers from the same manufacturer. The Lenze drives used to match the motors are equipped with an integrated PLC and a safety maintenance function. The actuator has two optional safety options: Safe Break Torque (STO) and Safe Stop Function according to Abort Category 1' (SS1). Both safety options are used for TOX servo press drives. As the General Manager of TOX emphasized, "We need to use the safety stop function in the robot guidance clamp articulation skills, because there may be people working around the robot. Other applications are fenced off for maintenance, which requires the use of the 'Safe Disconnect Torque STO' safety function. ”

TOX chose the Ethernet TCP/IP module of the servo manipulator 9400 as the data bus for the TOX-ElectricDrive servo press drive and as an interface to the company's parametric and programmatic software TOXsoftWare Worx. In addition, there is the communication module PROFINET and other optional bus systems for communication with the control unit. The increased rated storage space ensures that the TOX can keep all application software on the drive, including the envelope curve monitor and up to 500 final process data records and approximately 270 processes.

There are also a number of analog and digital I/O ports directly on the drive for the integration of external sensors and actuators. The number of ports can be expanded to 128 with the Lenze modular I/O system.
