In February 2018, the Ministry of Transport of China issued a notice on accelerating the pilot of a new generation of national traffic control network and smart highways, proposing to promote the orderly development of a new generation of national traffic control network and smart highway pilot projects from six directions: infrastructure digitalization, road transport integration, vehicle-road coordination, and comprehensive road network management. Case 2: AI intelligent traffic lights improve urban efficiency and reduce carbon emissions
The main road is wider, so it will be longer than the green light seconds to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. This design may not be too problematic during the day, but at night or even late at night, when the flow of people and vehicles is greatly reduced, vehicles on major roads are prone to encounter red lights, etc.
In order to reduce this phenomenon of empty red lights and improve driving efficiency, the local government has introduced an AI system, combined with intersection surveillance cameras, Advantech's MIC-720 industrial-grade edge AI computing host, and its partner Congtai Technology's AI algorithm, which can flexibly adjust the traffic signal according to the on-site traffic flow and people flow to solve the existing traffic problems.
