In the early '40s, Lynn ·Charlson founded Char-Lynn in Minneapolis with a passion for meticulous craftsmanship to invent a new system that increased the output torque of hydraulic motors by a factor of seven.
At the same time, Mads Clausen· founded Danfoss in Denmark is now in its ninth year. Metz wanted to broaden the heating and cooling business in the third area, and having just completed the first version of the power-assisted steering system, he wanted Danfoss to use the expertise it already had to expand its hydraulics range.
Just after witnessing the beginning of success, Metz passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60. When Lynn retired, there was no one to take over the business, so he sold Char-Lynn to Eaton. As a result, Eaton/Charlynn began a long-term collaboration with Danfoss, but the collaboration came to an end when the cycloidal patent expired. The twin brothers were separated and began to compete with each other in the global hydraulic market.
Towards the turn of the century, Eaton acquired Aeroquip-Vickers, strengthening its hydraulics business by laying a solid foundation in fluid handling and industrial hydraulics.
Saau-Danfoss becomes Danfoss Power Systems, the central business of the Danfoss Group and one of the world's leading mobile hydraulics. Over the past few decades, Eaton has also expanded its business in the industrial, fluid handling and mobile hydraulics categories.
Now, Eaton has joined forces with Danfoss' hydraulics business, and the twin brothers are reunited.
In August 2021, Danfoss officially completed the US$3.3 billion acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business, which expanded Danfoss Group's business plan by one-third and became a global leader in mobile and industrial hydraulics. (News link)
With years of experience, a shared belief and a shared passion for hydraulics, the acquisition of Eaton Hydraulics is a serious milestone for Danfoss.
We will continue to invest in innovation and early adoption, become a stronger partner to our customers and distribution partners, rebuild the industry's unrivaled product portfolio, and continue to imagine the future."
