MX 8M Plus products — RSB-3720 2.5" PICO-ITX SBC, EPC-R3720 Compact Edge AI System, and ROM-5722 SMARC 2.1 COM Core Board. These native intelligent platforms have up to 2.3 TOPS computing power and can support AI and edge computing technologies in smart vision-based edge devices that require small size, low latency, high energy efficiency, and high accuracy. In addition, they offer a highly integrated one-stop-shop for UIO40-Express, application-oriented modular I/O expansion boards, and AIM-Linux to Vision AI applications.
Superior AI engine technology for image processing applications
Advantech I. The MX 8M Plus solution (ROM-5722, RSB-3720, and EPC-R3720) features 2 to 4 cores of a 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 processor and a Cortex-M7 processor for real-time tasks, supported by two Image Signal Processors (ISPs) and a dedicated Neural Network Processor (NPU) with up to 2.3 TOPS. The solution not only consumes low power, but also has powerful image and AI inference capabilities. These features meet the requirements of smart applications such as object detection, recognition, classification, and pose estimation. Advantech's AIM-Linux modular Linux software service integrates ten types of application plug-ins and Edge AI inference engines/libraries based on the NXP® eIQ™ toolkit. In addition, the Python-based demo program supports AI inference using leading inference engines (including Arm® NN, TensorFlow™ Lite, and ONNX). Advantech has also developed a factory-centric AI model that runs on the EPC-R3720 Edge Vision AI system. Their efficiency and safety can be improved by calculating operating times and monitoring line productivity.
Flexible I/O simplifies application deployment
Edge AI applications, including facial recognition and product assembly optimization, need to provide high-quality camera input. These are equipped with i. The MX 8M Plus solution provides 2 x MIPI-CSI camera inputs for connecting to 2 x built-in ISPs — supporting smart vision-based systems. In addition, these solutions accommodate multiple displays via 4Kp30 HDMI, a dual-channel LVDS (configurable to two single-channel LVDS), and a 4-channel MIPI-DSI. Likewise, they provide the I/O required for advanced network and peripheral interface connectivity (2 GbE LAN, WLAN, and WWAN). The RSB-3720 features a UIO40-Express mechanical design that connects to an application-oriented I/O shield. Developers can get more serial ports (RS-232, RS-485), isolated DI/DO, USB 2.0, and a 4-port GbE Ethernet hub by simply choosing an I/O expansion board. In addition, Advantech's AIM-Linux includes an embedded Linux BSP based on a long-term support (LTS) version as well as peripheral drives for various software needs.

Advantech's RSB-3720, EPC-R3720, and ROM-5722 are suitable for a wide range of environmental applications while supporting a wide operating temperature range and high vibration resistance (-40 – 85 ºC/-40 – 185 ºF; board 3.5Grms, 3.5Grms box).
