Hirschmann switches are exchanged in the following three ways:
Straight-through:
A pass-through Ethernet switch can be understood as a line matrix switch that crisscrosses each port vertically and horizontally. When an input port detects a packet, check the header of the packet, obtain the destination address of the packet, start the internal dynamic search table, convert it into the corresponding output port, connect at the intersection of input and output, and directly connect the packet to the corresponding port to realize the switching function. Because there is no need for storage, the latency is minimal and the exchange is fast, which is what it is good about. The disadvantage is that since the contents of the packets are not saved by the Ethernet switch, there is no way to check whether the transmitted packets are incorrect, and it cannot provide error detection capabilities. Because there is no cache, it is not possible to directly connect to input/output ports of different speeds, and it is easy to lose.
Store-and-forward:
The store-and-forward mode is an application pattern in the field of computer networking. It stores packets at the input port, then performs a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Code Verification) check, takes out the destination address of the packet after processing the wrong packet, and converts it into an output port to send the packet through the search table. Because of this, the delay of store-and-forward in data processing is large, which is its shortcoming, but it can mistakenly detect packets entering the switch, effectively improving network performance. Especially important, it can support conversion between ports of different speeds, keeping the high-speed and low-speed ports working together.
Fragment isolation:
Here is the solution between the first two. It checks if the length of the packet is enough for 64 bytes. If the packet is less than 64 bytes, it means that the packet is fake and the packet is dropped. If it is larger than 64 bytes, the packet is sent. This method does not provide data validation. Its data processing speed is faster than store and forward, but slower than pass-through. This section describes the switching of Hirschmann switches.
At the same time, the Hechman switch can transfer data between multiple ports. Each port can be considered an independent physical network segment (note: non-IP network segment), and the network devices connected to it can enjoy all the bandwidth independently without competing with other devices. While node A sends data to node D, node B can send data to node C at the same time, and both have the full bandwidth of the network and both have their own virtual connections. If a 10Mbps Ethernet switch is used, the total traffic of the switch is equal to 2x10Mbps = 20Mbps, and when a 10Mbps shared hub is used, the total traffic of a HUB will not exceed 10Mbps. In a word, a Hersmann switch is a network device that can encapsulate and forward data frames based on MAC address recognition. The Hesyan switch can learn the MAC address and store it in an internal address table to reach the destination directly through the ephemeral exchange between the originator and the destination receiver of the data frame.
