The interior of the touch screen can be roughly divided into: communication interface unit, driver unit, memory variable unit, and display unit. In addition to the display unit, the other 3 units are invisible to us inside the touch screen.
1. Communication interface unit: This unit is mainly responsible for the data package packaged by the drive unit, sent to the communication interface on the back of the touch screen, and then sent to the PLC by the communication interface. What we have to do is to select a driver in the driver unit, and to put it bluntly, it tells the touch screen which driver packet it wants to send.
2. Drive unit: This unit stores a lot of communication files connected with PLC, a file corresponds to a communication protocol (if you don't understand the communication protocol, see my previous article), let's call these files drivers. That is to say, a driver corresponds to a communication protocol, for example, Siemens S7-200PLC uses PPI communication protocol, then the touch screen manufacturer will write a file that can communicate with Siemens S7-200PLC PPI communication protocol, and then put it in the drive unit.
For example, when our touch screen wants to connect with the PLC of Siemens 200, we select the PPI driver in the touch screen. If you want to connect with the PLC of Siemens 300, you can choose MPI (MPI is the communication protocol of Siemens 300 PLC) driver. These driver files are written in advance by the touch screen manufacturer, and we can only choose and not change. It can be seen that the more drivers in the touch screen, the wider the scale of PLC brands or communication protocols we can choose. The built-in drivers of mature touch screen manufacturers can simply cover up the PLCs and communication protocols commonly used on the market.
Therefore, when we have a touch screen in our hands and want to choose a PLC for communication, we must see if there is a driver in your touch screen that can communicate with this PLC.
3. Memory variable unit: This unit is also built-in by the touch screen manufacturer, it is actually a storage area, which can store all kinds of data, and the data types stored can be roughly divided into numerical type, switch type, character type, and special type.
For example, if we want to display the water temperature of a boiler on the touch screen, then we will create a new variable in the memory variable unit of the touch screen, and the name of this variable is "boiler water temperature" (the name is arbitrary), and the data type is selected as a numerical type. Then the touch screen will actively allocate a small area to the variable "boiler water temperature" in the memory unit. When the touch screen communicates with the PLC, the water temperature data read from the PLC is stored in this small area, which is the variable "boiler water temperature". When we need to display multiple data, we only need to create multiple variables. You may still be a little bit unfamiliar with this, but it doesn't matter, I'll follow the following Figure 4 system and you'll understand.
4. Display unit: This unit is easy to understand, as long as we can see things on the touch screen screen, they are all in the display unit. Take the above "boiler water temperature" as an example, if we want to display the temperature of the boiler water, we only need to draw a part of the display frame on the display unit of the touch screen (this part is available on each touch screen, just drag it directly to the screen), and then connect this part with the new variable of "boiler water temperature" above.
