Honeywell Speed & Direction, Speed Sensor ICs VG481V1

VG481V1 contains a bimodal detection circuit coupled to a Hall-effect element to detect the velocity of the target tooth of the iron tooth. As the target wheel moves through the sensor integrated circuit, the magnetic field of the bias magnet changes. The function of the sensor IC refers to the peak and socket magnetic energy level.

The high/low output states of the sensor IC correspond to the characteristics of the target gear teeth/slots. VG481V1 integrated circuits contain a voltage regulator, clock/oscillator, Hall element, amplifier, internal peak/trough tracking and holding circuitry, comparator, and open-collector output segments.

The sensor IC is protected from abnormal operation at low voltages by means of a power-on reset circuit. The output circuit has a short-circuit protection function. The voltage regulator has reverse polarity connection protection. The limit level is calculated from the stored peaks and valleys.

An entry-level algorithm is to hold the output until the limit level reaches a stable position. The VG481V1 is zero speed capable after initial startup as long as power is applied.

The VG481V1 ICs are available in a flat TO-92 style package with straight pins and are supplied in bulk for compact printed circuit board (PCB) layouts
