Fifteen new function blocks have been added to the instruction set, including math calculations, PWM, and SMS text messaging. The expanded backlit information display offers new possibilities for analog signal processing and automatic status reporting, displaying 4 lines of content of 12 characters each, with new options such as bar graphs and moving text displays, four DIN rail/panel mount basic units, each optionally expandable with one of the four input/output expansion modules, providing up to 28 inputs/outputs in total. The expansion modules provided include: 4 x 24V DC digital inputs (with 2 x integrated 1kHz counters), 4 x 240V AC digital inputs, 4 x relay outputs, and 4 transistor outputs As with earlier versions of the Alpha, there are up to eight inputs on the DC-powered/input-type base unit, which can be configured as 0-10V analog inputs. The Alpha2's resolution has been increased to 20mV (9 bits), the operating temperature range has been extended from 0 to 55°C to -25 to 55°C, with the same accuracy and reliability, making the unit suitable for enclosed outdoor use and refrigeration applications, a second communication port capable of sending SMS text messages to mobile phones, e-mails to PCs and fax machines, and remote maintenance capabilities can be accessed via a modem. The control unit can also communicate with other controllers or peripheral components, and three levels of password protection ensure security to prevent unauthorized access to programs and the processing of variable dataALPHA2 can be programmed directly using buttons on the front panel, but for significantly faster and easier programming, ALVS programming software () and cable () are recommended.
