Today's smart grids rely on phasor meters (PMUs) to provide vital real-time grid voltage, current, frequency, and phase data. In order to ensure that the PMU can provide consistent, accurate and reliable data, it is necessary to calibrate the PMU to a certain extent.
The 6135A/PMUCAL phasor calibration system is the most automated, traceable PMU calibration system on the market today. It is the PMU design unit, the manufacturing unit, and the unit of measurement solution for PMU calibration. For third-party calibration labs, power generation departments, and transmission and distribution units, the PMU calibration system is also a good comprehensive solution.
The main applications of phasor gauge (PMU) calibration systems include calibration of phasor gauges prior to installation, periodic calibration during their use, tests required for type approval of phasor gauges, certification tests, and testing of other grid instrumentation facilities. Because the 6135A includes a set of three-phase power standard sources, it can also be used to calibrate a variety of other power and power quality instruments.
The 6135A/PMUCAL calibration system complies with IEEE C37.118.1-2011 and PC37.242 standards for the operation and verification of phase measuring instrument PMUs. Because Fluke's PMU calibration system is an automated calibration system, even non-expert operators can get up to speed with the technology and start the full calibration they need in a matter of hours.
Overview of the performance of the 6135A/PMU calibration system
The 6135A/PMUCAL phasor calibration system provides:

The 6135A/PMUCAL phasor calibration system is housed in a standard 19-inch cabinet with an integrated test connection panel
6135A Three-Phase Power Standard Source: Includes one 6105A power standard source host and two 6106A power standard source auxiliaries to provide voltage and current excitation signals for PUM testing.
6135A System Time Unit: Control timing and synchronization of the entire calibration system during testing
GPS Receiver: Provides International Coordinated Time (UTC) for the 6135A/PMUCAL calibration system and the PMU being inspected
PC Server: A dedicated application controller that receives commands from the client PC to the calibration system
Status Panel: The calibration system can be operated from anywhere in the world via remote control, and the system status panel can give a concise indication of the status locally
In addition to the PC server in the calibration system, the client side requires a client PC and a network connection. The calibration software is the control interface for the 6135A/PMUCAL phasor calibration system, which allows you to configure the test process, control the test, and calibrate the PMU. The software is also a tool for test data analysis. The calibration system has two modes of operation. In simulation mode, you can run the software without connecting to the actual PMU, simulate the response of the PMU to test the test environment, train the system, or use the software off the calibration system. In the PMU test mode, the system can test the PMU and collect actual data.

The test system is structured so that client PCs located anywhere in the world can access the test system via the Internet. Depending on the configuration of the PMU (frequency, sample rate, level), the PMU test can be automated in about 6 to 12 hours, while manual calibration can take days. Setting up before the start of automated testing takes only a few minutes of interaction.
According to the measurement requirements of the IEEE C37.118.1-2011 standard, the system can provide a test uncertainty ratio of 10:1. The calibration reports generated by the 6135A/PMUCAL calibration system are flexible and convenient. Pre-customized report formats are included in the system, which reduces the time it takes to generate reports. Users can use this report format directly or as a template to customize their own reports.
6135A three-phase electric power standard source system
At the center of the phase gauge calibration system is the 6135A three-phase power standard source system, which can be operated independently of the system time unit and the PC server. The 6135A is a standard unit for power and energy calibration. The voltages and currents generated can be accurate to six digits with an uncertainty of better than 0.005% (50 ppm). The phase can be adjusted to 1 millidegree, or 10 microradians. The 6105A phase performs well with a phase uncertainty of up to 2.3 millidegrees of voltage and current. The voltage-to-voltage phase uncertainty is 5 millidegrees. The 6135A can generate a wide range of complex signals, including flicker, harmonics, swell-dips, interharmonics, and modulation harmonics, as well as combinations of these signals. These features provide the flexibility to calibrate a large number of power, energy, and other power-related test instruments, including:
