(1) Classification by function
1. Sensor-type robots
Also external controlled robots. There is no intelligent unit on the body of the robot, only an actuator and a sensing mechanism, and it has the ability to use sensing information (including vision, hearing, touch, proximity, force and infrared, ultrasound and laser, etc.) to process sensing information and realize control and operation. Controlled by an external computer, the robots currently used in the RoboCup small group competitions are of this type.
2. Autonomous robots
After design and production, the robot can automatically complete various anthropomorphic tasks in various environments without human intervention. Autonomous robots have modules such as perception, processing, decision-making, and execution on their bodies, and can move and deal with problems independently like an autonomous person. Many countries attach great importance to the research of fully autonomous mobile robots. The research of intelligent robots began in the early 60s, and after decades of development, at present, intelligent robots based on sensory control (also known as second-generation robots) have reached the stage of practical application, and intelligent robots based on knowledge control (also known as autonomous robots or next-generation robots) have also made great progress, and a variety of prototypes have been developed.
3. Interactive robots
The robot conducts human-machine dialogue with the operator or programmer through the computer system to realize the control and operation of the robot. Although it has some processing and decision-making functions, and can independently realize some functions such as trajectory planning and simple obstacle avoidance, it is also subject to external control.
(2) Classification according to the degree of intelligence
1. Industrial robots
It can only rigidly work according to the procedures prescribed by people, and no matter how the external conditions change, it cannot adjust the procedures and the work done accordingly. If you want to change the work that a robot does, you have to change the program accordingly, so it is not intelligent.
2. Primary intelligent robots
Have the ability to feel, recognize, reason, and judge like a human. According to the changes in external conditions, the program can be modified within a certain range, that is, it can adapt to the changes in external conditions and adjust how it can adjust itself. However, the principle of modifying the program is predetermined by people, and this kind of primary intelligent robot already has a certain amount of intelligence.
3. Advanced intelligent robots
Have the ability to feel, recognize, reason and judge, and likewise modify the program within a certain range according to changes in external conditions. The difference is that the principle of modifying the program is not prescribed by people, but the principle of modifying the program is obtained by the robot itself by learning and summarizing experience. Therefore, its intelligence is higher than that of the initial intelligent robot. This kind of robot already has a certain degree of automatic planning ability, and can arrange its own work. This kind of robot can work completely independently without human care, so it is called an advanced autonomous robot. Such robots are also beginning to become practical.
