The N4680 Series 2D scan engines are Honeywell's next-generation compact decoding devices, available in TTL serial or USB interface models, both with an industry-standard 12-pin ZIF connector. To facilitate a seamless migration for customers using the previous model (Honeywell N3680 Series), the N4680 Series scan engines share the same mechanical dimensions and offer the same mounting holes and electrical pinouts for drop-in replacement. For existing customers using the Gen5 5x00 and EAxx platforms, the N4680 series offers an upgrade path to deliver better performance in a more compact, all-in-one package.

The N4680 Series scan engines feature motion tolerances of up to 6 m/s and image capture rates of up to 120 fps. Powerful processors up to 2.5x faster. Powered by Honeywell's latest decoder platform, the device supports a wide range of barcode types, including 1D, 2D, and OCR. In addition, it includes advanced functions that support reading poorly printed barcodes and on-screen barcodes. These attributes make the N4680 Series scan engines effective for paperless, contactless scanning, in line with current trends.

The N4680 series allows customers to easily integrate a standard TTL serial or USB interface in a compact form factor with no mechanical design issues when handling additional cables and decoder boards. Whether you're looking for a scan engine to handle scan-intensive applications, such as many handheld terminals, or you need a compact form factor to fit into a compact mechanical design, the N4680 Series has you covered for both mobile and stationary applications.

The global shutter with better agility has a higher motion tolerance than the rolling shutter (6 m/s for the global shutter compared to 0.1 m/s for the rolling shutter).

In addition to barcodes, other features such as OCR and TotalFreedom™ are supported. The latter provides an open system architecture that facilitates the development of software plug-ins to implement value-added custom features, such as Honeywell's EasyDL™.
