KEYENCE's new ultra-high-speed 2D measuring system offers additional advantages to France's subcontractor.

DBC, located in the town of Marignier in south-eastern France, specializes in precision machining and screw machining. A few months ago, it became one of the first companies to purchase KEYENCE's IM Series image dimensioning systems.

David Firinu, Director of Quality, said: "The system is so easy to use that our entire production team knows how to use it to inspect parts in the production process. Before purchasing the IM series, it usually took up to ten minutes to get the measurement results. Now you can get the measurement results in just five seconds at the push of a button. We strive to maximize the number of our inspections. The IM series can inspect approximately 300 programs on 3,500 different types of parts. ”

Mr. Firinu adds, "It enhances our process and quality in two ways – we are able to check more dimensions more often, and it also excludes variations due to differences in operator and measurement conditions." ”

Prior to the purchase of the IM series, DBC used a measuring tool such as a profilometer projector or micrometer to complete the same measurements.

The IM series is a new type of measuring instrument. More than just a profile projector, microscope or automated CNC measuring system, the IM series image dimensioning system is a new tool that enables reliable measurements in the shortest possible time. All you need to do is place the measurement object on the coordinate table and press the button. It can inspect 99 places in seconds with an accuracy of 0.5 microns.

The IM series also eliminates cumbersome target positioning and the risk of measurement due to differences in operator skill level. When manually inspecting edges with the naked eye, it is almost impossible to avoid differences in the skill level of the operator. In addition, the longer the stroke length of the XY stage, the more errors due to vibration will occur.

Measurement results are also automatically generated. The Intelligent Pattern Analysis and Retrieval System (iPASS) determines the position and orientation of the measured object and compares it with the recorded shape of the measured object. It can measure all dimensions, from internal diameters, spacing and angles of circles, to other complex dimensions.

With a pixel accuracy of 0.01, KEYENCE's sub-pixel processing system detects edge positions more accurately than conventional systems. The IM series offers a resolution of 6.6 million pixels, repeatability of 1 micron, and accuracy of 2 to 5 microns.
