IDEC (Izumi Electric), a Japan manufacturer of industrial control and automation components, has bought France's Apem Corporation, a specialist in HMI and switching components, and the acquisition will make IDEC the world's largest supplier of HMI components, panels and systems. IDEC expands its market in Europe and adds new segments to its portfolio with more than $500 million in joint sales. IDEC has been approved by Apem's parent company, MMI Technologies, to acquire Apem for $266 million.
Toshi Funaki, the company's president, said the acquisition is an important step in Idec's globalization, and the combination of the two companies will give you access to new customers, new markets, and a broader product and service space. Toshi Funaki added, "The two companies will combine strengths in terms of products, business models and geographical locations, with 3,500 employees worldwide, sales subsidiaries in 15 countries, and factories in 10 countries. ”
For Apem, the company's history has turned another page. "Our products are complementary and will create a unique opportunity to offer a more perfect product range for our current customers and new projects," said the President of Apem. APEM will maintain the strength and strategic development focus of its brand under the leadership of the current management team.
Founded in 1952, APEM manufactures panel components such as switches, joysticks, keypads, and LED indicators. It utilizes semi-or fully customized HMI panels that it generates itself and sells to external customers to assemble their HMI panels. APEM's main production bases are in Europe, North Africa, United States and Asia, and operate in 11 countries, forming an agent network and more than 130 distributors on five continents, serving more than 20,000 customers worldwide.
IDEC said that Apem's products and markets complement IDEC's HMI systems and other products, including industrial controls, sensors, switching power supplies, LED lighting, security systems and explosion-proof equipment, and that the two companies share many of the same values. APEM's historical presence in Europe will help accelerate IDEC's growth in Europe. IDEC's strong position will enable Apem to open up new product markets in Japan and other parts of Asia, and the combination of the sales team in the United States will provide more sales opportunities for both parties
