EM241 modem module
The EM241 modem module extends the capabilities of the S7-200 micro PLC to long-range communication. It can be connected directly to the S7-200's extended I/O bus without occupying the CPU communication interface. The baud rate is self-negotiable, depending on the quality of the line, and can be adjusted between 300 baud and 33.6K baud (V.34bis). Hardware rotary switches support many national standards. All other settings are stored in the PLC's variable memory. Pulse or tone dialing is supported, as well as callback and password protection functions.
This module supports four modes: Mode 1: Micro/WIN Programming Micro/WIN is connected to the EM241 modem module, allowing access to the PLC program. Modem passwords and callbacks are supported. Mode 2: Modbus Master/Slave ConfigurationIn Modbus slave configuration mode, the module accepts Modbus commands. In the Modbus master configuration mode, the PLC can initiate Modbus commands. Mode 3: SMS Messaging & Paging EM241 calls the messaging service center and transmits the message. Depending on the service option, the message may be sent to a mobile phone or pager. Mode 4: CPU-to-CPU communication The EM241 modem module calls another EM241 module to establish a CPU-to-CPU connection. Up to 100 words of PLC data can be transmitted.
